Being thankful for the luxuries … In this case, coffee.
Hi There! Hope everyone has got something to be thankful for today…
I know this may sound corny and cheeky, but somehow today I feel the need to pray about coffee. I know there are thousands (millions) of more important things to pray about, but this is on my heart today. No really; not just the coffee but I want to pray for all those who have something to do with it. Often times we have funny anecdotes about coffee, jokes about it being a lifesaver, odes to coffee alluding to the Lord’s Prayer and so on, I like to look at these anecdotes too, but there’s more to it.
Just to give you an example: For years (yes, decades even), sometimes the only bright highlight of my day at work would be that cup of coffee and being able to run into the kitchen, grab a coffee, have a short chat with a co-worker before running back to the desk and doing what I was being paid for. It was a warm soothing thing to have coffee beside me while I was doing something tedious and menial, or wracking my brain on a solution to a technical problem, all the while a deadline at my neck. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful I had this work and I even enjoyed my job most times…but the coffee did help a lot.
Some people even insist that they can’t live without coffee (ahem, I would be one of those). But the truth is, you can live without it if you had to, I could if I had to. It’s a luxury, one of those little luxuries that I’m very thankful for. In fact, you could substitute the word coffee for just about anything on this earth we could take for granted. So I’m going to say this little prayer today and maybe you’ll pray with me. If you’re not a coffee drinker I’m sure you can think of some other luxury or even necessity that you enjoy and might just be taking for granted. I’m serious about this, go ahead. If you’re not one to pray and not a believer, just forget about this post and go on with your day, k?
Here is my prayer:
Dear Lord, I come to you humbly to say thank you for putting coffee on this earth. You know how much we love it. I’m praying for the farmers, thank you for them and may they be able to feed their families and live healthy happy lives with this trade. May they be able to get up when they need to and have the energy to do the tedious work involved, God please be with them and bless them. I’m praying for the distributors and sellers, thank you for them also, otherwise these goods would not get to where they are. May they use wisdom in pricing, using fair prices in trade both for the farmers and the consumers. May they not be insensitive to the needs of the farmers and may they be not have greedy hearts. Dear Lord, also I’m praying for the consumers. May we drink with reverence, always remembering what a luxurious thing You have given us and may we use this resource moderately and listen to our bodies when it whispers to us “no more”. Thank you dear Lord, for hearing my prayer in the name of Jesus, You are the Everlasting. Amen.
Thank you so much for those who have prayed with me and those who have read all the way through, I’m applauding you for your tolerance.
Wishing all of you a wonderful day and weekend!
