A Tale of Two Cities, the palace of Versailles and Kaiserschmarrn….what a combo!
Hello there! I had a strange dream tonight…somewhere between taking a bath in front of others and being beheaded, I woke up. I am so not going into details! I guess it was bound to happen considering what influences I had this weekend: A Tale of Two Cities, a book on Versailles and a big helping of “Kaiserschmarrn”!
Friday, ET had a day off and I talked him into going junking with me. There was really nothing to be had, except a magazine style book on the palace of Versailles for 50 cents, couldn’t resist that. It’s an interesting read and takes you through all the important rooms with lots of pictures. There you have it! What a combination…A Tale of Two Cities, a book on Versailles and Kaiserschmarrn for Sunday breakfast…I was doomed to dream weird things!
There are endless recipes for Kaiserschmarrn. But I used a waffle recipe which I adapted from the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook, so easy. Here is my simple version of Kaiserschmarrn:
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup cooking oil
Directions: Mix dry ingredients in one bowl. Mix wet ingredients in another bowl. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until combined. Don’t overmix. Grease a deep oven pan and pour in the mixture. Let bake at about 350°F until ends are golden and “pancake” can be lifted. Then use a fork and spatula to “mix up, mess-up” the mixture. Let bake again until golden. Serve warm…add to serving plates, add desired sauce, sprinkle with lots of powdered sugar and serve. (The mixture might stick to the pan, but I really don’t know how to remedy it…need to work on that more!)
Great as a dessert or for a Sunday breakfast! If you decide to try it, I’d love to hear what you think about it.
Well I better get back to working on that chair….I was so naive into thinking I would be done with it today! Hope you all have had a good start to your week, see you soon!
