Blogging, WordPress and Plugins are not my cup of tea today
Hi! If you read this blog you might be wondering what’s going on around here, things might be looking a bit weird. I’m working behind the scenes changing things around again, although this time I’m forced to change things! This may or may not interest you, but I’m using the WordPress platform for my site and using a few plugins to make things easier. I’ve learned that sometimes plugins don’t make your life easier at all, in fact, they can pretty much destroy your free time if you don’t think things out right at the beginning.
You see I must be a glutton for punishment, but for the past 2 years I have been using a plugin for WordPress that helps me turn it into a 2-language site, for German readers. It seemed like such a great tool for implementing a bilingual webpage. But it turns out that I shouldn’t have used a plugin. I should have just figured out a way to do it without having to install a 3rd party program. I’ve always had small problems with this plugin whenever WordPress got updated, and there was always a fix for it eventually after I did a lot of searching. But now I’m getting tired of the problems with it.
All of the sudden, this plugin stopped working when I updated to WordPress 4.0. Well I haven’t been getting any answers on the support page of this plugin and I’m quite frustrated with that. After waiting a few days I’ve decided to stop using the plugin. I won’t name it now because I don’t want to give them a bad rap just yet. The fix may be something really itty-bitty, but I can’t wait that long for an answer.
So I’m doing a pretty big step by deleting the plugin and now I have to edit ALL of my posts from the last 2 years. The plugin used short codes on all posts, so I have to remove them manually. It’s a long story, but that is what I’m working on.
It’s actually quite brain-deadening work and I keep thinking I shouldn’t have quit my job…at least I got paid for it then! Na, just joking, I’m really enjoying the heck out of this!
Hope ya’ll are having a great week and I’ll check back with you again soon!
Take care, ~Siggie
