Bathroom renovation update and installing a new heating system
Hi All! Thought I’d pop in and give a little update on our bathroom renovation and some other stuff we’ve been up to.
We got our new heater installed today and ET was extremely tied up the last few days in preparing the ‘heater room’, which is one of the reasons that the bathroom renovation is stalling a bit.
We have a so-called warm air heater. It’s where a central heater fires up a tiny enclosed space and that hot air is then transported into the different rooms of the house through air ducts. I think this system is pretty widespread in the USA, but here in Germany it is pretty rare nowadays.
Anyway, this tiny room or area was a mess in it’s original state, as the house is about 50 years old, so was the heating system and ducts. The heater itself would decide to cancel out on us every time it got really cold outside and not only that, but insulation had been set free and flying into our breathing air, so that all had to be renewed.
So in short, our heater was in desperate need to be replaced. And can I just say, working with Rock-wool is just not fun.
It’s very hard for me to explain in such a short format, but ET made sort of an insulated steel box for the heater and installed that inside the tiny area. I cannot tell you how much I prayed for things to work out, because if you would have seen it, you wouldn’t believe one person could accomplish it.
Well, yesterday evening at 10pm, it was finished. The new heater was delivered this morning, installed and everything seems to be working fine. I’m sure there are easier ways to get this done, but probably not very cheap.
And on to the bathroom
So now you can see why it’s been almost 3 months since we started the bathroom renovation and are still working on it. I’m so very thankful for that shower in the basement, y’all!
Well, you know how it goes, bills must be paid and other things must be taken care of, so while ET is also busy earning the bacon, he only has Saturdays and Friday nights to work on the project. Here are some updated pictures:
The last of the tile for the floor will be done soon, yay! And then I get to help with grouting and painting of the walls. After that, the fun stuff begins; the details like cabinet painting, decorating and setting things up.
We have come a long way from what it was before and yet, I’m so looking forward to sharing the finished room, that could still be awhile ☺
With all this unfinished stuff, I’d like to leave you with some pretty pics.
Some images of our garden and homegrown grapes, some of them did really well this year. They are so sweet from all of the sun we’ve been getting, but they need to be watered every day for them to thrive.
We have four different types of grapevines that are popular in the area we live in. We have to pic them and eat them before the birds get them, ha!
That’s my update for now. I have so much stuff going on it’s not funny, but I’d be pushing it to list things here. Let’s just say, life sure doesn’t get boring, ever.
I’m wishing y’all a beautiful day or night, wherever you may be, and hopefully my blogging muse will show up again soon, sure miss her sometimes!
