Time for an update. I’ve been quite sick lately and not in the mood to get on the computer. I’ve spent most of my free time in bed actually. Vacation was bittersweet for me..it was great seeing the family again, although I was sick most of the time. Mom and Sis took great care of me though. Sis even took me to the doctor there and I’m telling you, without those antibiotics I’d still be coughing up a storm. After coming home, I still haven’t got rid of this stuff though…it’s slumbering in my body somewhere probably because I’m also fighting jet lag. But I’m on the way to recovering and feeling more energetic again. I had a few bad dreams about being stuck in airports and them not wanting to fly us home some nights, you can’t even imagine…and this was in a country where I feel at home and can speak the language. Luckily my son and his girlfriend were with me so I didn’t feel alone, but I did feel responsible for getting them home too. We were made to feel pretty defensles against those airlines (I won’t be flying Lufthansa anytime soon!). Anyway, it just so happens that it snowed in the south on the day we were supposed to fly back, so our flight had to be re-routed and the lady at the Delta counter did her best to get us on our way home, she referred us to Lufthansa which at first made us happy because it was a non-stop flight. But then, after being at the airport for 12 hours waiting, we were told that flight had also been cancelled due to technical problems. OK, so we went back to the check-in counter and all they could do for us is give us a list of hotel numbers at the airport and told us to call a 1-800 number for a rebooking in the evening. I did the rebooking over the phone at my Sis’s house and spent another night there. The next morning we got to the airport, went into the check-in line and were told we had to go to ticketing, there was some kind of hassle about not having a coupon or voucher from Delta (which the lady at Lufthansa check-in kept)…the very untactful young man at Lufthansa ticketing told us they couldn’t accept us…by this time I was reeling mad and finally after explaining that another person had kept our voucher he told us they could accept us and to have a nice flight! How unprofessional can you get? I couldn’t believe how we were treated at Lufthansa, I mean it was supposed technical problems on their side and they treated us like we hadn’t paid for the flight! I heard a few other people saying that they purposely cancelled the flight because there were too few people to fly that day and they would have a full plane the next day…can you believe it. What a nightmare. Imagine someone that doesn’t speak the language as well or is in some other kind of need. I am so angry about that.
On a more positive note, I really did enjoy being with my family again. Going on a shopping spree with my Sis and Mom meant the world to me because we don’t get a chance to do something like that every day, not even every year! We hope, no, we believe that with lots of faith we will be able to experience that kind of fun again. Maybe even here in Germany. I guess we better start saving for that first class ticket!
There is a mountain after all!
